I am a dedicated and passionate professional with a wealth of experience in the criminal justice and mental health fields. I earned a Bachelor’s degree from Western State College in 2000, with a double major in Political Science and Sociology, emphasizing in Criminal Justice. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a Residential Milieu Counselor with young men who committed sexual offenses.
After graduation, I worked in the criminal justice system from 2001 to 2005, in Community Corrections with city offenders and inmates released from the Department of Corrections (DOC). In 2005, I transitioned into community mental health and began pursuing a master’s in counseling from the University of Phoenix, which I obtained in 2007. From 2006 to 2011, I worked at Acacia Counseling, facilitating court-ordered domestic violence groups for men, women, and the LGBTQI population. I also conducted anger management and Cognitive Behavioral groups.
Following my time at Acacia Counseling, I served as a domestic violence advocate, supporting survivors in successfully exiting unhealthy relationships and navigating the court system as necessary. In this role, I also conducted psychoeducation groups for women, men, and children involved with the child welfare system. My passion for writing, teaching curriculums, and conducting trainings to educate others has been a consistent theme throughout my career.
In 2014, I began working in the child welfare system, where I have spent the past decade working with children and families. I specialize in assisting adolescents emancipating from the foster care system, providing them with the support and guidance needed as they transition into adulthood.
Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience in addressing trauma, anger management, domestic violence, and supporting adolescents, including LGBTQI youth and adults. My work is characterized by a non-judgmental and engaging approach, underpinned by a strong foundation in Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused techniques, with plans to further refine my theoretical approach.
After obtaining my master’s, I initially focused on family and other career opportunities before returning to therapy. I obtained my Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) credential in April 2023, with plans to achieve the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) designation by April 2025. My experience with diverse populations and commitment to helping people of all walks of life underscores my dedication to the field.
